I made a tool to get Free Carfax and Autocheck reports - feedback?
So it turns out there's multiple avenues to getting free Carfax and Autocheck reports. Several of the largest car-retailers actually end up calling the Carfax/Autocheck API for internal analysis rather than ordering the pdf style reports. The downside is that you don't get the full "Report" per say, but you can get the simple basics like:
1. First registration dates
2. Whether the car has had an accident
3. Salvage or no-salvage
4. Theft recoveries
Most of the same information is available in these API responses, and we put together a quick demo page here: https://www.withclutch.com/vehicle-history-report
Design is obviously not great now, but would love feedback on how we could make it better and easier.
PS. Why do we require SMS?
-- Whenever we release a new "tool" everyone else goes and scrapes is mercilessly. We put SMS messaging in between to inhibit these bulk scrapes since its easier to shut down individual phone numbers.
-- You'll never be marketed to as a result of giving SMS
PPS We've got some other tools coming - this is the most requested from a broader group:
-- Find out what the dealer paid at wholesale auction (so you can see what they paid for the car)
-- Find out if a car had prior paintwork from the auction reports
-- Get a simultaneous trade-in offer from Carvana/Vroom/Shift and hopefully we can get Carmax to participate
-- Chrome plugin so you can see ALL of this easily and with the window sticker itself
